The YWCA of Kuala Lumpur was established in 1913 and remains the largest affiliate of YWCA of Malaysia. It provides safe and comfortable accommodation for young women and girls from all parts of Malaysia as well as organises many programmes and projects benefiting the less fortunate.
For over 20 years the YWCA Kuala Lumpur has operated the Glenmarie Play Centre in Selangor. It was initially set-up for children of labourers of The Glenmarie Estate, and still serves the middle and lower income families in the vicinity.
In 1998, the YWCA of Kuala Lumpur built the Vocational Training Opportunity Centre (VTOC) , catering to young women and girls from the economically disadvantaged sectors of Malaysian Society. |
Four courses of study are held each year, made possible through strong financial support from foundations, corporations, friends and members.
YWCA of Kuala Lumpur’s Wednesday Morning Club meets weekly and is open to women from all walks of life. Members and friends of the YWCA also meet as a ‘Y’ Craft Group on selected Fridays where they pool their collective sewing skills for fundraising purposes.
